MAYAMALAVAGOULA
Mayamalavagoula, this raaga is known for the beginners to go for practice at the very
beginning. It is chosen to give so for practice because the swaras in this raaga are set so distinctly
that a beginner can easily find the difference of each swara. Right from Purandara Das's teaching
time it has become a convention to choose this raaga for beginners of Indian classical music.
It is one of the Janya raagas in the classical music. It is janya raga for some following
famous raagas like bowli, jaganmohini, gowla, janaranjani, lalitha, malahari,saveri etc.are quite
well known.
The arohana for this raaga is sa re ga ma pa da ne sa
and the avarohana is sa ne da pa ma ga re sa.
The swaras used in this raga are
reshabham - sudha reshabham
gandharam - anthara gandharam
madhyamam - susudha madhyamam
dhaivatham - sudha dhaivatham
nishadham - kaisika nishadham.
